Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday #1

Hello everyone and I am so excited for today’s post because… it’s my first Top Ten Tuesday! This was an idea created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

The rules basically go a little like this:

  1. Jana creates a new topic every Tuesday to make your list, and you create your own Top Ten (or three, or five, or twenty, however many you choose!)
  2. Link back your posts to That Artsy Reader Girl so when others read your post, they’ll know where to go to get more info about future upcoming topics.
  3. There is a linky widget on Jana’s Top Ten Tuesday post so other’s can see your post as well as you being able to check out everyone else’s! So definitely leave your links!
  4. Don’t be afraid to add your own twist to it!

This week’s topic, and my first topic I will have ever done, is Things That Make Me Pick Up A Book

I don’t think I am going to do ten, probably just as many apply to me. So let’s get started shall we?

The Cover!!!

This one has to be a little obvious I think for everyone, but I am guilty of judging a book by it’s cover. I have tried to not do that so much like when I go to the library to pick up a book, but when I’m buying a book? The cover is definitely something I think of. I tend to actually gravitate less towards gold foil covered books, like King of Scars’s cover was kind of just.. okay to me. I like the looks more of the galaxy, purple, pink and blue books. It’s funny, because I don’t even really like sci-fi books and that’s usually what most of the galaxy covers are on, but I still love them and think their gorgeous anyways. Here are some examples of my favorite covers, whether I’ve read the books or not.

The Price

Now this is really something I do pay attention to for books that I’m not really already totally in love with. If it’s a book like for example, Finale by Stephanie Garber is coming out in May, I am already prepared to spend like if I have to, $25+ for that book, and I am 100% okay with it because I am in love with the series. But there are books sadly I don’t want to pick up due to the price of those books. Crazy Rich Asians I have yet to pick up from the bookstore because its like 16.99 and I just think that is way too crazy for a book that’s been out for a while and is a paperback. But on the flip side, a book that maybe didn’t have that great of a cover, but was 8.99, I might still pick it up.

The Page Count

I find myself lately wanting to pick up books that have a lower page count, because I went through Harry Potter month and man, that was a lot of pages guys lol. So books that are like 300 or less is great for me and a perfect length, I might just pick up anything with that type of page count.

The HYPE

This is a big one, and I am also guilty of this a lot. I will read a book just for the hype, because sometimes I feel like it would be good for my blog to have reviews of really hyped books. I’m sure a lot of us bloggers are guilty of that, I can’t be the only one. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo were one of those books for me, I read it so I could have a review of a really hyped up book on my blog. I was scared I wouldn’t love it as much as some people do, but I must say, it was an amazing book.

The Seasons

So, this might be weird for some people, but I bet a few of you totally get this. There are certain books meant to be read during certain seasons. I will list the books meant for each season and when I prefer to read them. Just saying, books are meant for certain seasons.

  1. Winter- Fantasy, Mystery, Classic Fairytales, Science Fiction
  2. Spring- Contemporary, Classics, New Adult, Romance
  3. Summer- YA, Romance, Contemporary
  4. Fall- Some fantasy, Thrillers, Mystery

The Book Description

Obviously, you read the back of the book to find out if your going to like what you read. I know what I like as does basically every other bookish person out there, so of course you have to read the back to see if you’d like it! Especially if it’s a re-telling, I love a good re-telling.

So that’s pretty much everything that really makes me pick up a book. At least all of my book habits I can think of. What makes you guys want to pick up a book?
